Our pal Anne from Diamond Day Gardens wants you to kill your lawn and NAQP is inclined to agree with her! In a city and county where manicured lawns are ubiquitous, Anne is part of a growing movement of gardeners and landscape designers working to reintroduce native plants to urban settings.

If you’re already lucky enough to have a green space of your own, you may ask yourself, “just why would I bother replacing my lawn with a native garden?” Well friend, plants which naturally thrive in our local ecosystem require minimal water and maintenance (aside from some occasional weeding) and they also provide essential habitat for birds and pollinators, including our native bees!

We teamed up with Anne to showcase a small selection of native plants that can easily be grown in your urban garden, and with the help of another pal and artist Damu Cai, we created this graphic tee. By shining a spotlight on some of Alberta’s unique beauties, we hope to inspire the folks in Calgary to rethink their green spaces.

$10 from the sale of each shirt will be donated to the Alberta Native Bee Council, a non-profit made up of bee researchers, conservationists, and enthusiasts whose mission is to promote the conservation of native bee communities. We’re happy to support their work in building healthy native pollinator populations and restoring habitat here in Alberta.

How we measure

I suggest buying your most regularly purchased/worn size for the intended fit. Size down for trim and up for oversized fits. Take a look at the size chart and please remember clothing sizes are not standardized, so choose the fit/shape/size that works best for YOU! Best practice is to wash by hand in cold and lay to dry, or else get em dry-cleaned.
